We had our highest electrical bill due to air conditioning this summer and made the decision to install solar panels. Our attached garage faces due south at a 45 degree pitch so it seemed to be a highly suitable location. We contacted Matt Vajda, of Voltage Electric, an experienced solar panel installer, who told us about the incentive package available through Consumers Energy to sell electricity back into the grid. Their plan called (EARP or Experimental Advanced Renewable Program) was created to comply with Michigan’s renewable energy act and they offer this program for selected customers’ projects. Once we were approved by Consumers, we authorized the project with Voltage. Matt helped us with all the paper work during the approval period and the subsequent Consumers Energy contract.

The actual installation started on a Monday with a crew of two, and was totally completed within five days. The installation looks totally professional and Voltage scheduled third party interactions (the Consumers Power final grid connect and Grand Traverse County electrical inspector) such that there was no delay in completing the project. We are completely happy with how efficiently this project progressed and fully recommend Voltage as a project contractor. Voltage Electric has been providing electrical services for my company, Bruen Construction for the last seven years. Matt Vajda and his team at Voltage Electric recently installed a generator for on of my customers during the construction of a new home.

I consulted with Matt as to what generator was needed. He first listened to what the home owner wanted in terms of what was important in the event of an outage. Matt made recommendations about what size generator was required and priced a couple of different options.

The customer will not be a full time resident for the next few years, so it was extremely important that they rest comfortably knowing there will not be any issues in the event of a power outage. It is a pleasure working with the Voltage Electric team.

In the fall of 2006, Voltage Electric installed a Cutler Hammer 7000 Watt Automatic Standby Generator at our residence. We were able to decide what the generator would operate in a case of power failure.

The generator runs a 20 minute test once a week and at some point we realized that the test was not taking place. In October of 2011, we had Voltage Electric troubleshoot a bad charge board for the battery and they installed a new charge board.

The only time we have lost power since the installation was in March of 2012 and the generator ran perfectly for 36 hours straight during an outage caused by a huge snowstorm. We appreciated the generator and Voltage Electric very much during that power outage.

This letter of recommendation is written on behalf of Voltage Electric, Inc. The following is a brief description of my experience with Matt Vajda CGP, Voltage Electric.

We are building a new home and, it was important for me to incorporate the sun’s energy in our building plans. After about 6 months of research beginning with an independent site assessment, I found a company willing to perform the work. However, upon checking with my local Electrical Code Inspector, I learned that the company did not have the appropriate licensing to install a solar system. Please realize that solar power is relatively “new” technology in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and certified experts are difficult to find. The Electrical Inspector provided me with a list of suggested properly licensed companies, and that’s how I came to contact Matt Vajda in August 2010.

Matt worked well with us, patiently and knowledgably addressing any and all of our concerns. He made recommendations about what size solar array was required and affordable and provided 2 different complete quotations for us to choose from. Upon reviewing the proposals, we discovered that we could provide some of the work required, and Matt adjusted the price to reflect about a $6500 savings for us! After several conversations with Matt, we contracted with Voltage Electric (mid-September) to provide our service. The date for installation set by Matt was November 9th, as the panels had to be ordered and the poles set to support the array. Voltage Electric had many ongoing conversations with the City of Norway Electrical Department during the planning phase of our project as well, since this was a first project of its’ kind in the city.

You can imagine my excitement when I heard from Matt, that they would be starting a whole day earlier than expected! (Believe me, I have had exactly the opposite experience in all other stages of the building project.) Matt and staff started the project early on November 8th, and the work was completed by noon on November 10th. There are other things that impressed me about Matt’s way of doing business that need mention too.

His proposals were complete and easy to understand. Although Voltage Electric is located roughly 300 miles south of my building site, there were no additional charges incurred due to the travel distance. His work ethic is admirable; it was inspiring to watch them work long hours in a rugged terrain without complaint. Voltage Electric left my work site absolutely immaculate, which I’ve learned is pretty rare in the construction business. Matt also provided some training to us, and to the City of Norway.

The solar array provided and installed by Voltage Electric, Inc. is by far the best thing about my new home so far. I have had no problems at all with the system, and am happy to report, no electric bills thus far either! Please consider this letter a solid recommendation for Matt Vajda, Voltage Electric. Had I known Voltage Electric does interior wiring too, I would have contracted that work with them as well. In these trying times, it’s encouraging to know that there are still professionals that meet and exceed all expectations, and Matt Vajda/Voltage Electric, Inc. is one of those rare companies.
